Plus, he has only one gear, lacks even average speed/range and struggles to quickly get from point A to point B. Isn't real physical inside the box either, gets knocked off balance easily, struggles to pick his way through traffic and lacks the closing burst to consistently make plays in pursuit. Now, does take good angles in the secondary and breaks down well on contact. Nevertheless, he too often sees his angles outpaced in the open field and isn't real rangy when asked to tackle in space.
Impression: Lacks the size to play inside the box and doesn't run well enough to get much of a look playing in the deep half at the next level."
Positive: Solid run-defending safety who is best playing downhill. Fast up the field, aggressively attacks ball carriers, and throws his shoulder pads into the action. Displays skill in zone coverage and is effective picking up assignments facing the action.
Negative: Gathers into tackles and does more hitting than wrap-up tackling. Bites on play-action passes and is a bit of a late reactor. Does not have great hands.
Analysis: Morgan comes off a career season in which he showed terrific improvement on the field. However, he is an undersized run-defending safety who is best in a straight line. He must make his mark on special teams to stick on a roster."
He started out at Virginia Tech in 2007 as a true freshman playing in all 14 games and picking up 11 tackles, a blocked kick, a PBU and another PD.
In 2008, he started the first five games before suffering a knee injury that knocked him out of the last nine. He tallied 18n tackles with a QBH and a FR on that season.
In 2009, he played in all 13 games and started 4, tallying 47 tackles, 2.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, a PBU, a PD and 2 FRs.
In 2010 he started every game and had a breakout season with 76 tackles, a TFL, 5 interceptions, 4 other PDs, a blocked kick, and another FR
Strengths: Has just enough of everything you are looking for...fluidity, size, instincts, tackling ability. Has hands for the pick and has developed into a fine ball hawk. Has an uncanny ability of being in the right place at the right time. Solid tackler. Good team mate. Young, with upside left. Can be a spot punt returner or kick returner.
Weaknesses: Does not excel in any area on a consistent basis. Has some games where he disappears. Not an enforcer in the run game. Marginal size. Kind of a CB-FS tweener. Late bloomer who still has much to learn.
Projection: 4-5th rounder."
