Doesn’t consistently take proper angles in pursuit and really looks uncoordinated when asked to tackle in space. Plays at one speed and lacks the kind of range needed to run sideline-to-sideline. Needs to do a better job protecting his legs, as he allows himself to get cut down too easily in all areas of the game.
Isn’t real coordinated in his drop and lacks ideal body control when asked to quickly change directions and click and close on the football underneath. Displays a lot of wasted motion in his footwork and struggles to cleanly click and close in space.
Impression: I like his frame, but he’s not a real instinctive or coordinated athlete and will struggle to hold up in both the run and pass game at the next level."
Positive: Athletic and imposing looking linebacker coming off a disappointing season. Breaks down well, gets depth on pass drops, and covers a lot of area on the field. Displays speed in pursuit, quickly changes direction, and is always willing to get involved in the action. Remains disciplined with assignments and plays with a nasty attitude.
Negative: Must use his hands better to protect himself and is easily taken from the action by tight ends at times. Late reacting and does not display top instincts.
Analysis: Davie was highly rated coming into the 2010 season but did not live up to expectations and as a result saw his draft stock drop. He possesses the size, growth potential, and athleticism to be used at outside linebacker in a variety of systems if he gets his game back on track."
Davie excels with instincts and diagnosing plays. What he lacks in speed, he makes up for in being in the right place at the right times. He has NFL-ready size and strength for the position, but his lack of burst in pursuit makes him a bit of a liability at the next level.
In order to ensure his selection in the draft, he will need to test well at the NFL combine. He currently has a listed 4.69 in the 40 yard dash and any improvement there will only help him.
Given his size and experience, Davie is best suited to play a 4-3 OLB or even a 3-4 ILB.
He plays well in coverage, which is very important at the next level. He is effective at reading the quarterback and falling back into open space.
Davie projects as a sixth round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft."
