When analyzing the Merits of a prospective CornerBack, this is how I personally break things down:
Intangibles: Diagnostic Acuity, Field Vision, and, above all: Processing Speed. And of course: Motor. Motor Matters.
Agility: Acceleration, Fluidity, and Closing Speed. And of course: Verticity!! Turning & Burning in Direct Coverage.
Pass Prevention: Combat Skills in Coverage, and Timing, Vertical Burst, and WingSpan at the Catch Point.
Run Support: Appetite, Tactical Discipline, and Combat Skills ~ working through Traffic & Tackling Mechanics.
Agility: Exceptional. Impressive Fluidity, Acceleration, and Closing Speed.
Pass Prevention: Raw and inconsistent, but improving and intriguing. BreeLand isn't shy about initiating Contact, and is possessed of an extraordinarily lengthy WingSpan, which he employs to great Advantage in Direct Coverage. His Mechanics need Work, but he's got active Hands. At the CatchPoint, he's equally raw, but oh that WingSpan.
Run Support: Extraordinary. His Mechanics, yes, need Work, and he could stand to lay on a few more pounds of Beef, but BreeLand has a tremendous Appetite for Contact, and the Frame, the Agility, the Intelligence, and above all the Attitude to become an outstanding Run Defender. His Potential here is rare, and his potential unheralded Impact immense.
Based on Trajectory, considering Tape and my Fevered Imagination, I consider'm to warrant a considerably higher Grade.
One of my favorite Aspects of this pleasurable Endeavor ~ forging Scouting Reports ~ is that the process itself keeps expanding my Vision. Case in Point: A deeper Appreciation for the Divergence between demonstrable Talent ~ or Established Capacity, if you will ~ and Potential...and the diabolical Challenge of grading the Twain.
Bashaud BreeLand strikes me as a guy heavy on Potential and raw on Established Capacity...But who inspires an elevated level of Confidence that he's more likely than not to actualize his extraordinary Potential.
This is in stark contrast to a guy like Loucheiz Purifoy, who's done nothing to my knowledge to disgrace himself, but who's Trajectory, based partly on Tape and partly on my Fevered Imagination, is far more dubious.
Bashaud BreeLand, on the other hand, raw as he is, has The Right Stuff.
I can't put it any more palpably than that.
Thanks, as always, to the extraordinary Work by the men of Draft BreakDown!!
