When evaluating MidFielders, these are the Attributes to which I pay most particular attention:
Run Defense ~ Processing Speed, Power, Agility, and Mechanics as he Works Traffic and of course Tackling.
Pass Coverage ~ Processing Speed, Agility, and Verticity. Tackling.
Pass Rush ~ Power, Agility, and Mechanics.
Intangibles ~ Processing Speed, Field Vision, and Motor.
Pass Coverage ~ This is speculative, of course, so I'll just say that I believe he possesses the Fluidity and the Processing Speed to become an adept Pass Defender at The Next Level in the next Year or two.
Pass Rush ~ Magnificent. He brings phenomenal Launch Velocity, sensational Fluidity, highly underrated Core Power, great Closing Speed, and a tremendous and rapidly developing Arsenal of Pass Rush Moves together. Awesome.
Intangibles ~ Awesome. He is by all accounts a ferocious Worker and an extraordinary young Man.
The next thing I should say is that I believe that a lot of what I read in the Scouting Reports around the Web are premised on Flawed Logic. Mind you, we are all in the Speculation and Projection business, and the Reports I refer to were all written by Writers far more expert than my sorry ass...But I get the distinct impression that, probably because most consider Ford's Position at The Next Level uncertain, they've inadequately attenuated their Observations.
In EarthSpeak: I believe that most of my fellow Speculators have viewed Dee Ford through a Defensive End Prism.
And I believe that, having done so while watching this 243 Pounder attempt to Anchor or to Bull Rush Mastadonic Offensive Tackles from a 3 Point stance, they have been deceived as to his true Core Power, and how it would translate to his playing Flank Defender at The Next Level, where the spatial dynamics are far, far different.
Of course I'm just speculating...But of course: That's all I do, here!!
I believe that Dee Ford possesses exceptional Core Power...and I believe that his amazing Performance during Senior Bowl week and during the Game, itself, lent dramatic support to my Perception.
It will take time to master all the Aspects of playing Flanker at The Next Level, but I believe that Dee Ford is equipped with precisely the tremendous Athletic Tools and Core Power to become an exceptional Run Defender.
Likewise, I believe his tremendous Fluidity will enable him to develop into at least an adequate Pass Defender.
Indeed, I believe that all the Years that he's played Defensive End, doing Close Combat with men 60-100 Pounds heavier than'm, will prove to be of great benefit to his Future Success, as being thus conditioned will make playing In Space and sorting through far lighter Traffic a relative breeze. Meanwhile, he can earn his Bread as a Pass Rusher.
And Oh what a Pass Rusher he will be.
Thanks, as always, to the extraordinary Work by the men of Draft BreakDown!!
