Rams ~ 6012/252
When evaluating MidFielders, these are the Attributes to which I pay most particular attention:
Run Defense ~ Processing Speed, Power, Agility, and Mechanics as he Works Traffic and of course Tackling.
Pass Coverage ~ Processing Speed, Agility, and Verticity. Tackling.
Pass Rush ~ Power, Agility, and Mechanics.
Intangibles ~ Processing Speed, Field Vision, and Motor.
Pass Coverage ~ Solid. Played End at Colorado State and rarely dropped. But Barrett strikes me as pretty much born to play Flanker in the the 34, which wouldn't call for'm to do much of that. And when he does, it will of course take him a couple Years to acclimate, but his amazing Processing Speed and Fluidity suggest tremendous Potential.
Pass Rush ~ Extraordinary. Barrett combines explosive Launch Velocity and impressive Core Power with that extraordinary Fluidity and exceptional Combat Skills. He needs to develop that Repertoire some more, and he could certainly Beef Up the Core Power some more, but Barrett's brings tremendous Pass Rushing Potential to the BattleField.
Intangibles ~ Phenomenal. Barrett's Processing Speed, Field Vision, and Instincts, are simply sensational, and I'm equally impressed with his persistent Attention to Detail: The development of his Mechanics and his Tackling, his Gap Discipline in Run Defense, and his Focus in Battle are that of a seasoned NFL Veteran. This kid is amazing.
Page's Work is sporadic ~ he looks very young and doubtlessly has many demands on'is time ~ but he is brilliant.
And those Pieces are 99% of the reason that I was inspired to study up on Barrett in the first place.
I doubt if Shaq Barrett will even get drafted, and I have no idea if he'll ever get a legitimate Opportunity to compete for real Snaps at The Next Level: The League can be remarkably myopic in many bewildering ways.
But as far as my admittedly ludicrously unseasoned eyes can see, Shaq Barrett brings extraordinary Potential both as a Run Defender and as a Pass Rusher, and a developmentally adept Pass Defender who already looks good, there.
Most importantly, though: He has immense Potential as a FootBall Player. His remarkable Processing Speed, combined with an exemplary level of Attention to Detail in all Aspects of the Game, strongly suggest to me that Barrett will rapidly develop into the guy who consistently clicks one step ahead of everyone else on the Field.
I believe that ~ given half a Chance ~ he'll become that guy who Makes Plays...and often when you need'm most.
And I believe that that, combined with impressive physical Talent, will translate, given that Opportunity, into an extraordinary Career...and precisely the kind of guy you want on the Field during The Only Games That Really Matter.
Thanks, as always, to the extraordinary Work by the men of Draft BreakDown!!
