They're terms that I find 1000 times cooler than "H-Back" or "Move" Tight End...but that's me!!
The most compelling Attributes of a Tight End, in the 21st Century, are, in my view, and in no particular order:
Blocking ~ Core Strength, Drive Power, Fluidity, and Combat
Release ~ How Adeptly he employs Burst, Core Strength, Fluidity, & Combat to Dust Off the Defender
Routing ~ How Adeptly ~ Crisply, Intelligently, and Reliably ~ he Runs the Route Tree
Separation ~ Fluidity & Ricochet ~ Explosiveness out'f'is Breaks
Catching ~ Reliability & Technique
Navigation ~ How well he Navigates the Field in Pursuit of Yards After Catch
Release ~ Good. Nice Burst out'f the Blocks. Fluid & Strong with terrific Hands.
Routing ~ Very Strong. Was often deployed as a Slot End & Split End at Rice, and has a developed feel for Routes.
Separation ~ Exceptional > Extremely Instinctive & Fluid ~ outstanding Ricochet for such a big guy.
Catching ~ Inconsistent.
Navigation ~ Impressive. Excellent Fluidity & Lateral Range, and outstanding Vision. Physical.
He's Raw as a classic Tight End, but clearly commands the Blocking Power to excel, there.
Mind you, he's already ready to excel as a Flex End, should he be drafted for that Role.
But it doesn't present his greatest UpSide.
McDonald commands an awesome Fusion of Blocking & Receiving skills, and is a truly dangerous, dynamic Hybrid.
His hands suck, and he needs to work on that.
But there's a strong chance that he'll become an enormous Hybrid Weapon at The Next Level.
